Sea Cliff

Sea Cliff, with a population of approximately 5,066, is located 8 miles southeast of New Rochelle and 19 miles east of New York City. In the 17th century, the area was known as “Muskeeta Cove,” meaning “coves of grassy flats.” It was originally inhabited by Native Americans until Englishman Joseph Carpenter purchased the land. The settlement was incorporated as a village on October 10th, 1883. The land was used as a religious retreat, where German Methodists from New York City came to worship in the summer and built Victorian mansions that still exist today. Sea Cliff also became a popular resort town frequented by wealthy residents in the 1890s.

Fun fact: Sea Cliff is the fourth oldest incorporated village on Long Island.
