Massapequa Park

Massapequa Park is one of 64 incorporated villages in Nassau County, measuring 2.2 square miles and bordering the Southern State Parkway to the north and the Great Sound Bay to the south. The village shares the same rich Native American history as its neighboring town Massapequa, since they were regarded as one parcel of land at the time the town’s founding. After the American Civil War, the area attracted Germans who settled in today’s Massapequa Park and farmers who bought and rented small plots in northwest Massapequa. After construction of the South Side Railway in 1867, it began attracting vacationers from New York City. The area grew as hotels and homes were built, such as the Massapequa Hotel, known for its elegance and proximity to Billy’s Beach.

Fun fact: Almost every street name, especially throughout Nassau Shores, was named for Native American tribes and culture.
