Hicksville

Once a small farming community, the modern-day hamlet of Hicksville is one of Long Island’s major transportation hubs. Post-World War II population expansion in Nassau County helped Hicksville evolve into a prominent business district in the early 20th century. Hicksville is also influential in the arrival of the Long Island Railroad in 1837 and soon became the link in an all-rail route to Boston. Completed in 1844, the LIRR ran across the center of Long Island to Greenport, where passengers could travel on the main line all the way to the Port Jefferson Branch.

Fun fact: Hicksville is home to the only IKEA outlet store east of New York City.
